Acknowledgement of Country

We respectfully acknowledge the Yuwibara people as the Traditional Custodians of the lands that encompass the Mackay region. Yuwibara ancestral lands stretch from the O’Connell River in the north to Eungella National Park in the west, Cape Palmerston National Park to the south, and include the sea and coastal areas to the east.

We pay our deepest respects to Yuwibara Elders past, present, and emerging for their enduring connection to the land, waters, and community.

In 2020, the Yuwibara people celebrated a significant milestone with the recognition of their traditional rights through a native title determination. Collaborative efforts with local authorities continue to ensure the protection and management of cultural heritage sites, honoring the legacy and stories of the Yuwibara people.

We also acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of Country throughout Australia

and their continuing connection to land, sea, culture, and community.

We pay our respects to the Nations Elders past, present and emerging.

Including our acknowledgement of the broader Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander,

and South Sea Islander community.

Extending our gratitude for the contributions of all Indigenous Peoples

to social and emotional well-being, health, and healing.
